Can ₹1,500 buy you a decent whey protein? Often, yes — cheaper tubs are usually better value per gram of protein, not worse. But a large minority of them are mostly not protein, and the price tag will not tell you which is which.

We looked at every 1kg whey protein in our catalogue priced at ₹1,500 or less — 70 tubs — and compared them with the 284 priced between ₹1,501 and ₹3,000.

Prices and nutrition figures were taken from our catalogue on 29 September 2026. Nutrition comes from each product's label as listed by the seller. We are a data platform, not a laboratory, and did not test these products ourselves — here is how we handle product data. We only counted products whose serving count, scoop size and pack weight agree. Prices move daily, so check the live price on each product page.

What ₹1,500 Buys

1kg whey priced…TubsMedian protein per scoopMedian cost per 100g of protein
₹1,500 or less7073%₹208
₹1,501 – ₹3,00028473%₹333

The typical cheap tub is just as pure as the typical mid-priced one, and you pay about 38% less for the same protein.

But the spread is wide. Of the 70 tubs under ₹1,500:

  • 8 reach A tier (75% protein or more)
  • 35 are B tier (60–74%)
  • 27 — nearly 4 in 10 — are C tier, under 60% protein per scoop

A C-tier tub typically has a large scoop (around 45g) with about 24g of protein in it. The rest is carbohydrate — usually 12–15g per scoop on these labels — plus fat, flavouring and sweetener. That makes it closer to a light mass gainer than a whey protein.

Our Picks Under ₹1,500

The pack is 500g, so it lasts about two weeks at a scoop a day.

Most protein for the money: MB Fuel One Whey Protein OP. A full 1kg of 73%-protein unflavoured whey for ₹1,499 — ₹208 per 100g of protein.

Cheapest way in: XLR8 Flavoured Whey (450g, ₹799). If you only want to try whey before committing to a big tub.

The Cheap Tubs to Read Carefully

These well-reviewed 1kg tubs all sit under ₹1,500 — and all are C tier, around half protein by weight:

ProductPriceProtein / scoopPurityCost / 100g protein
Bigmuscles Nutrition Prime Protein₹1,12624g of 45.5g53%₹213
Nakpro Impact Whey Protein₹1,29924g of 45g53%₹246
Absolute Nutrition Noble Whey Protein₹1,41524g of 45g53%₹268

They are not bad deals per gram of protein — Bigmuscles Prime is nearly as cheap as our top pick. But you get 22 servings instead of about 30, and every shake carries around 20g of non-protein powder. Nakpro Impact's label also lists 12.8g of sugar per scoop. If you are trying to stay lean, that matters. If you are a hard-gainer who wants the extra calories, it may suit you — though more food usually does that job more cheaply (what actually helps hard-gainers).

How to Buy Whey on a Tight Budget

  1. Divide protein per scoop by scoop size. Under 60% and a big part of the tub is filler. This is the single most useful check on a cheap whey.
  2. Compare cost per 100g of protein. A 500g pack at a higher price per kilo can still beat a 1kg tub per gram of protein. How many servings are really in 1kg shows why the serving count misleads.
  3. Look at unflavoured whey. Our cheapest pick per gram is plain whey — see the full unflavoured whey ranking.
  4. Be wary of prices far below the rest. Whey protein has a real cost floor. A tub that is much cheaper than similar products deserves a close look at the ingredient list for added amino acids: how to spot amino spiking.
  5. Have a bigger budget? Our best protein under ₹2,000 and cheapest protein per gram rankings go further up the range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is whey protein under ₹1,500 good?

Many are. Across 70 one-kilogram tubs under ₹1,500, the median is 73% protein per scoop — the same as tubs costing up to ₹3,000 — at about 38% less per gram of protein. But 27 of the 70 are under 60% protein per scoop, so check the label before buying.

What is the best whey protein under ₹1,500 in India?

For a full 1kg, MB Fuel One Whey Protein OP Unflavoured at ₹1,499 was the cheapest per gram of protein.

Why does cheap whey protein have a 45g scoop?

Because much of each scoop is not protein. A 45g scoop with 24g of protein is 53% protein; the rest is mostly carbohydrate, flavouring and sweetener. It keeps the "24g protein per serving" claim while lowering the cost of the tub.
